May Club Activities

May at the Field

It is a windy day on the 22nd and only four of us showed up to have fun. We were able to put in a good number of plus 10 min flights. The flyers were the Marcicki's, Joe Schnur and myself.
   The Marcicki fleet
We used the new "Hands-Off" retriever sitting on the ground to the left in this photo. It is really a slick machine and takes all the scary parts of retrieving away. It is quite possible to launch and retrieve yourself.
Joe flying the Claris Foamie from MPX. Handled the wind OK considering it is so light. I think Joe said it was around 27 OZ.
   Gerry launching the Mantis
   Dave Corven doing his thing

While others were watching the Indy 500, we were flying. We win!

Hutch may have found out why his plane was such a bear to fly today.

Team Striker. Don't fly these as much as we should because they are a lot of fun trying to do formation flying. Hutch is like trying to keep a puppy in a box.
Chris Corven packing up for the day. It was a great day with big lift most of the day so we all got our share of stick time today.
Serghei Jenes trying to steal my Supra and take it back to the Ukrain with him.

MSL#1 at Toledo

There were a lot of GDSHS jackets on hand today, 10 to be exact. Our club had a very good showing, at least in numbers.
A lot of looking up today because MOM is a good spectator type contest for those that "know" the strategy involved. Chris Corven took 4th and Dennis learned a little about this kind of contest.
Wolf is going to get you with his new HD camera. Hope to see the flic's at the club meeting.
John Root is one of the original TWS members and long time favorite nice guy. John has helped our club with the Snow Flys in past years.
Jack VanHee is another of the originals at TWS that has helped our club whenever he could. We owe these gentleman a ton for their support and leadership in putting on the show every year that is considered "the" show in this country.
Rick Lederman of the TWS is one cool dude and my timer for the day. He is a very good stick and knows where the air is at his home field.  It did help a little but even Rick could not save my less than stellar flying.

The winch lineup, seven good winches. Looks like Bob Burson timing Jerry Shape, both very good flyers. Today was Bob's day as I think he took second.

Bob has timed for me at the NATS more than once and really does read air well.

Rick trying to get the Supra tuned up for the next launch, it is a new ship and Rick is adjusting the towhook to get that fast rotation the planes is noted for. Dennis makes a good holding fixture and is always willing to help anyone who asks.
Hutch gave us all a laugh when he pulled out the EZG for the last round. We all cheered but it did no good as he did not max like we all wanted to see.
Dave Corven looking "racy" today. Dave and the TWS go back a long way and he was at one time a member of that club.
