 September Club Activities

September 2nd at the field- just a fantastic day with lift all over and a lot of looooong flights.

I got to fly this fantastic Quaker. It belongs to Pete and he comes out just to let us play with his great old timers.
Speaking of Old Timers, no one is older than Bob Belger (Rt) and the plane he is setting up is 25 years old so it is fitting.
My not so old heli. It is a Flasher 500 and basically a rip-off of the Trex 500. It probably does not have quite the quality of the Trex but for my just hovering around, it is great.
Mike Wade begging food off of Bob Blegers daughter (L), Ray, I want to be an ORF, Milio  (C).
Tom LaClave (aka- Tree Top) with his bipe. It really looks go in the air.

Wonderful Day for a Club Contest

Getting ready to get ready. Steve, Dave and Hutch getting the parts together. Dave wants a longer wing or a "Foot Long", not sure which.
New guy Ned Burdick did his first solo launches today- Congratulations Ned, now to progress and beat Hutch next week. I used my Super AVA in the battles today because it needed flown. It was feeling so lonely in the hanger all year waiting for a low wind, big Q day.
Dave Corven's AVA coming in for the landing, Chris was timing and checking the value on the tape. The big bent wing birds were great today but landing them consistently is always a problem compared to a 6 servo plane.
Good old flying buddy (OFB) Hartmut Claus in from Germany on a holiday came out to the field today to help out and be with his old buds. It was great seeing him again. Here is helping Roger find out why the plane was not behaving well- turns out one of the servos had a stripped gear set. Good news is Roger got it down without harm.
More Hartmut mug shots. He was helping Mike when Hutch decided Hartmut could not help Mike if he was going to help Mike score better than him.
Greg Nilsen going up for a 10. The new Explorer is getting tunned in well for Greg.

Wonderful Day for a Makeup Club Contest

We Selected April as the Lucky Month

Flying Date Was 13SE09

The contest was a 3+1 TD with 60 point max landings. Dennis was the CD and we flew a 4-6-8 in any order and then round 4 was a 10 min to shake things up a little. I kind of like this format used last week for the first time by Gerry Marcicki . The 10 min final rounds puts the skill requirement back up there and mixes up the results. Kind of like SMOM.

Wonderful Day for a Tuneup for Sunday

Flying Date Was 09SE09

Mike Wade and Dick Stratton heading out to the winch to do a BIG LAUNCH and practice that 100 point landing so necessary to win a TD nowadays
Hutch, better know as "Shim Boy" getting the last little tweak before Sunday
Corven did some programming work on the 9303 to get his Supra flying the way he likes.
Somehow, Steve Martinez left his DFL trophy in the shed hoping no one would see it. Well he won it fair and square so we will present it to him (and the rest of the world) again through the wonderful world of electrons.

Wonderful Day for an MSL Contest

Here is Saturday at GLASS (Lansing)

Brent Robinson and his new (finished last night at midnight) Sprite. Brent and Bob Robinson and Chris Corven are flying the Sprite from Kennedy Composites and love them.
The flying at GLASS has moved from one sod farm to another and they are right across the street from one another. This one is just as beautiful as the old one but it to may end up in corn. I think it is the Witt farm and we owe the owners a big thank you for allowing us to use this site. It was as perfect a flying site as I have seen outside of the Muncie site.
Left: John Winstanley and Larry Storie waking up after driving in from the left side of Michigan. Right: Dave Shaw signing in - the guy in the background is Jim Lipowitz, the CD and spark plug for the GLASS Club.
Ted Grossner from TC and our own Greg Nilsen with Jim again in the background. Ted is a very dangerous man with this assortment of DUCKS and is doing well in the MSL this year.

The Saturday Greater Detroit Gang with 5 of the 8 or 9 places to be had, it was a great day for us. From the Left: Dave Corven, Chris Corven, Brent Robinson and Jack Iafret

I wrote down the places but lost the paper-  I think Dave took a 3rd in RES and 3nd in UNL, Brent took a 3nd in 2M and Chris a 2rd in UNL and I got a 2nd in RES. This may not be 100% correct but it is close. The important thing is that GDSHS did a fine job today.

Other pilots from our club were Gerry Marcicki, Dave Shaw and Greg Nilsen.
