GDSHS June Contest

W. Hutchings - Contest Director

The weather at Addison Oaks County Parks was sunny, warm and gusty.

The Northeast wind direction necessitated a short line. It also forced us into a limited landing approach situation. With gusty winds to 20 MPH, these conditions were challenging, to say the least. For the 10 who flew, the proof of their general competency was that no planes were damaged or lost.

The contest format was designed to provide a lot of airtime, and also some contest flying pressure.  The first round was 5 minutes, precision, with 100 point landing.  The next 3 flights were 6-8-10 minutes; time yourself, 100-point landings.  The air was unforgiving, and if your short launch did not give you air, you were in for a 1:04 time.  However, there was one team who not only could see air, but also fly it and land it.

Our winner, Jim Marcicki flew a first flight of 4:58 with an 81 landing.  He hit the 10 and 6, never less than a 65 landing, to total 1657.  Second place finisher, Dave "I'm happy to be flying my new SUPRA" Corven, was at 1176.  Jim and Gerry should be banned from club contests!!!!!!!!

It was good to see John Ferguson with his two-meter ship, tuning himself up for the 2006 Nat’s.  Also good to see Rodger, Joe Schnur, and Wolf, helping and supporting our contest.

Only two flyers did not complete the 4 tasks.  My new/old HERA was not quiet trimmed our, and after a dramatic landing, I decided the plane needed to go back to the HERA museum.

Ken Rogus asked if anyone wanted to fun fly, and Jack and Dave both said they would.  After he put the winch away, there was no fun flying.  Hey: It was too windy anyway!!!!!

Steve Martinez, helping John Ferguson stop POPPING OFF!!!  What’s with that about?

Greg Nilsen got two landings, and was even able to weave his way through the tree line to get home.

Everyone enjoyed themselves.
