2007 November Club Contest

04NO07

Hutch is feeling so much like a king today for winning the Postal that even though he was CD for this contest he commanded me to do all the paperwork.

I as a good slave bowed and accepted the assignment. Of course this allows me to “get even” and I can write whatever I want. “Paybacks are hell”!

You should read the Postal Contest report first to see how the weather was and overall feel for the lift/weather today.

We had 13 flying in the club contest. Hutch called a four round 5,7,9,9 call-it-when-you-land event. We used the F5J 60 point tapes for this contest and they worked out well.

“King of the Postal”, Hutch, did not clean our clock in this one, only pulling a 43% of winner Dave Corven’s score. I think Hutch flew his Beer Cooler against the Supra’s of the world and even though he says they will beat the moldies every time, the scores do not back up the boast. I think Hutch should fly his Beer Cooler in all the contests to give us mere mortals a chance.

It was a fair contest with lift very difficult to find but it was there as Dave proved with good flights in all four rounds. He beat second place by 5%, which is a lot in this kind of contest where one can pick the times after landing.

It was a busy contest for us flying both events today in the 11:00-2:00 time constraint, seven flights and timing made it tight but doable, no time to sandbag here. Dave got the last flight off seconds before the time limit to hoots and hollers from the peanut gallery.

I want to thank the guy’s that ran the winch all day when they were not flying as it went great with no line breaks or delays. At times we had four or five lined up to launch so it was a busy winch all day. We really have to be thankful to Mike Wade and Dick Stratton for keeping the launch equipment up and running in top order, they work hard at it and it shows. With test and fun flying after the contest we had well over 100 launches without a hitch.

The scores here were much closer than the Postal and distributed well from top to bottom. Again the air was tough and you really had to range at times to find lift (or not) and when you did it was light and tight. Seemed like just little weak thermals spread far apart with no one spot being hotter than the next.

All in all it was a great day and probably the last nice one for the year. We may get some nice days yet but on a weekend? Fat chance!
