APRIL 2008 CLUB CONTEST
Hi Fliers,
Sunday was a surprise as far as the weather went, 5 to 10 mph turned into 15 with gust/thermal activity to near 20 mph. We can't complain, because the lift was great with some very strong thermals.
The contest was a qualifying lap around the field parameter, than a 5, 7, and 10-minute duration flight. We could have had longer duration's if there was a higher turnout. Dennis and I flew 2M planes only to give Hutch (who was very shaky) and Steve, (who had not flown a winch launched plane in a while) a slight break.
At one point all of us including Mike Wade and Dick were all specks in the sky. Mike was trying out his new 2.4 transmitter and was not ready for serious competition. It will take some time to and a lot of trying to get the programming down pat.
Barney and Wolf stretched their arms again with their discus launched sailplanes to the point where they begun to look awkward. Both have a right arm that extends to their knees.
Barney got over 1000' with his hand launch today. Good job Barnster.
We really have to be careful entering the field while there are pilots flying; we had a little problem today that we do not want to repeat.
We discussed this topic at the last meeting, and that is to have a 'Stop ' sign near the approach to the flight line.
The Winch Master at that time has to give the all clear to the person entering the field to proceed. The Winch Master is any one running the winch at that time.
The other safety concern is; anyone sport flying no matter what they are flying should have an established flight line. We have been using the parking area, right in back of the rear of the vehicle. An out of control plane can really injure someone or do some damage to the vehicles.
As our club continues to grow the safety concerns grow even more, and we do not want to jeopardize the park letting us use the field. All it takes is one incident where someone is injured and a suit follows.
We're done! KAPUT
