May Club Contest and Fun Flying

It was a great day to fly and we had all kinds of sailplanes and electric park flyers that kept the skies full after the contest. (See club contest report under the "Club Contest" navigation bar button)
You would never guess these guys were racked with tension waiting to get the contest going.
The "KID" and Hutch picking on poor old Bob Belger. I think Bob is the oldest living member of the GDSHS and is out often to have fun and be with the "guys".
The "KID's" dad Gerry getting the AVA out of the car for battle.
Anyone want to buy Hutch's hot rod truck? He wants to buy more planes from me so needs the money. Seriously, it is for sale.

The darn thing looked so cool parked there, I just had to take a picture of it.

Dave Corven either telling us where the plane hit or doing a DUI test.
Dave Shaw doing the "Nostalgia" dance. Love the plane but I am glad only his voice shows up on the radio, the dancing "is a little cheesy" according to the Gecko.
The "Real Sailplanes" lined up for the contest. No motors here, only a winch and a heavy foot on the switch. BTW, the "KID" won again.
Mike Jones with his new scale job. It got hand launched today and did very well but did not winch launch due to technical problems. Can't wait to see this baby in the air and there is nothing like a scale ship to bring out the beauty of flight.
Our ambassador to the Ukraine, Sergey doing some business with his "contacts".
"Need more lead." Dan Jackman's new BOT ARF had it's first flight today and was it a great one. Dan is back from a 20 year absence to RC flying and never missed a beat. Wolf's motor, Belger's assembly work worked great and pulled this bird up at a 45 degree angle right into lift. Wolf did the first launch, I did a little trimming and turned the box over to Dan who rode a thermal to speck height then proceeded to Acro stuff all the way down. He must have been one heck of a pilot 20 years ago because he looked like he never left the sticks.
Jim Fetterly and his electric. Jim is new to the club and one great guy to be around, always helpful and good sense of humor.
Ray Milio is the winch master for this flight and Dennis Kozak is the pilot. Dennis is always in lift, sometimes his plane is to.
Alex Straub and his own creation the "Jonathan". This is one fantastic ship and seems to be a lot like an Evolution in it's flying characteristics.

Alex designed and built the ship totally and I believe it is a hollow molded ship, it's strong, big and fast; a hard combination to beat.

Steve Martinez and his new Duck 2M. It is like all duck's and launches to the moon and is fast and accurate. Launch and landing's are it's thing.

Wednesday Fly's Bring Out All Kinds of Sights

Some of the club members make things other than sailplanes or "foamies", Joe Schnur hand crafted a great looking musical instrument from scratch with inlays and all. He even plays it a little.
Tom Laclave (aka. Tree Top Tom) with one of his rubber powered models. An old free flight addict never gets enough of chasing planes down wind.
Hutch with his "foamie" P-51. Wolf wants to add enough power to make it explode like a Striker at 120 mph.
Hartmut Claus from Germany joined us for a day of fun and flying while on a vacation. A great old club member and dedicated flyer that he is, he took two sailplanes with him and I can tell you he still has the touch. He will be in Norway next to fly with friends there. What a life.
Belger telling the clean shaven (who is this masked man) Dennis Kozak what a nice looking plane Hutch's HERA was until he put all those cheap decals all over it. Does "Blue Light Special" mean anything to you.
Hartmut and Steve discussing the "best new plane for Steve".
Mike the man Wade coming in from a good flight.
Ah, flying is done. It's Miller time.
Ed Cenkner is not flying any more but comes to keep us in line. He is holding a Cox war bird, showing the great extent of planes we fly in this club (fly's nicely in case your interested). Belger on the left is one of the original members of the club and may be the oldest and the good news is he is still flying and having fun.
There are a couple of the ARF BOT's in the club using the little Komodo two rotor motors wound by Wolf. Hooked up to a Cosmotech gearbox, these little motors are amazing and pull this rather large plane up at a good 30 degree angle. How cool is that for a $25 motor.
Notice the no park sticker on Hutch's new ride. Looks like he is going for another ticket. I told you this club has variety, even the model transport vehicles are different (See Hutch's other ride above)
Your web master in front of a 16mm lens. Now you know why this site is so goofy!

Actually Dan Jackman said if I did not include this shot, I could not use all his other outstanding photos.

The real webmaster getting a 2005 Pulsar ready for a rocket climb at 335 watts on a 24 oz. plane. Insane climb!
Alex Straub with his all molded scale ship. His is the builder and seller of these magnificent ships from Germany. Alex made all the CNC tooled molds for this six meter. More diversity in the club as Alex is into aero towing and is headed for the JR meet.
Hutch parting with a 100 dollar bill for another "foamie". Steve has a whole hanger full of stuff for sale, look him up for a good deal.
