December 2007 Club Activities

This is the time to wish all a great holiday season and a happy new year of flying with old and new friends alike.

We did not have a club contest this month because it's Michigan and it's winter, 'nuff said.

However, we have picked up the second winter season of flying in the dome with our foamies and helicopters. This is really a stretch for a bunch of sailplane geeks but it sure beats not flying. Some of us  get really desperate (Hutch) and look for thermals by the heater outlets. Some even move to Florida for the winter in search of rising air; is that sad or what?.

It is just fantastic to have a warm place to fly and be with friends in the winter months but there is one small downside to this - no building season!!!  My furniture building may be on hold while I get a couple of foamies done and spend a lot more hours on the simulator learning to fly the Trex.

The other big event this month is the club dinner and that is what the all the photos are about, I will not go through the usual comments (jabs,  jibes and distorted humor) as this is event is more upscale than that and deserves a little peace and quiet.

The photos are all from my little point and shoot camera, so with the bad lighting, even the photo doctoring software did not help some of them and I apologize but thought the guys would like to see them anyhow.

A couple of dome photos are plugged in later, scroll down to see those.

Flying at the Dome

Sid Schmall and Dave Corven doing a little "fix-'em-up"  prior to the next flight. Flying at the dome is never without tweaks because the planes are so fragile.
John Ferguson getting ready to launch his Extra 330. There are a bunch of these getting built in the club right now, some stock and some not so stock.
A sequence of shots of John's launch going into a hover. Takes a ton of practice and a bunch of skill.
