Barney and Wolf looking over a very old set of plans that came with a
Robbe kit from Germany |
 |
The kit the plans came out of. It is very early in the days when
fiberglass and foam were just hitting the market in the sailplane
industry. Nice kit, the wing trailing edges are still fairly straight. |

Mike Holmes in one of his rare visits to the field on Wednesday (Golf
gets in the way of a good hobby). He loves putting his electric
sailplane OOS. |
 |
Pete with his old timer, a Playboy maybe? His workmanship is very,
very good. It was a little windy today to get it up so we just did
photos. |
 |
Tom Laclave (Tree Top Tom) retrieving his new "Lot's of Parts" plane. It
flew for the first time today and it floats around like a big kite. Kind
of Sailaire like. |

A little closer look. |

Well Bob Belger's Dallaire is flying and the really good news for me is
I got to fly it. According to Bob it was it's third time out and I can
tell you it flies like a Paragon, only maybe better. My one flight was
quite long because I took off and headed east and hooked a big thermal
over the trees. A couple of buzzards came in the same thermal and we
circled together for maybe five minutes then they split. I continued
to climb in that big thermal until the stab was almost gone and Bob was
getting a little tense because I was up so high. When it got up another
couple hundred feet, I had enough so put it in a nice spiral dive and
dropped it to maybe 800 feet . Then did it all over again without
touching the motor.
It also lands like a dream and greasing it in is no problem.
Wolf put it up a couple of more times before we left all hot and
tired from a day of fun in the sun. |

A couple of the planes and the winch setup getting ready for action in
the early AM. |
 |
The western Michigan contingent: Cal, the Winstanley's and the
Robinson's. |
 |
Al Sorenson was the CD as he normally is for the MISS affair. Al and
brother Norm run a really relaxed 6 min. TD contest. The air was
challenging today- no wind and very, very light thermals placed far
apart. Good TD event. |
 |
Ray Milio with the Paragon which was a perfect plane for the day. Today
a moldie was not a requirement. |
 |
Ken Shaw did yeoman's duty all day on the retriever. The two winches
meant no waiting even if one went down. Norm handled the other
retriever. |

Just a shot of the newly cut grass at our gorgeous field provided by
Oakland County Parks. What is that in the background, perhaps it is a
"Walk of Shame". |
 |
Jim "The Kid" Marcicki is very dangerous with his Edge. Jim can
whip up on us old timers most of the time. (Wolf Photo) |
 |
Thought I would get in a little chopper flying before the contest
started. Yes, we do fly small electrics at our field. Mostly park flyer
size stuff. (Wolf Photo) |
 |
And the winners: Gerry Marcicki, Chris Corven, Mike Wade, Brent
Robinson, Bob Robinson in the back row with Cal Posthuma up front. Not
sure of the order as I do not have the MISS score sheet. |
 |
Jack Wallner getting ready for action. There were a lot of AVA's and
Super AVA's flying in RES today. (Wolf Photo) |

The guy that pulled it together and did it very well. Hutch had to
convince the club this format was the right one for our big yearly
contest. We are all glad he did because the contest was a great success. |
 |
Bob Robinson took 5th place and this year we has something special. Bob
and son Brent flew and trophied together and Dave and son Chris flew and
trophied together. Maybe a first for the MSL- anyone know? |
 |
Brent Robinson took 4th. Brent has flow very little lately but when he
does, it appears he has lost very little in capabilities. If he gets
back into flying regularly we are all in trouble. |
 |
Cal took third. He is always on the podium and always a force to be
reckoned with. |
 |
The older Corven, Dave, at the meet today did himself nicely with a
second. He tried his best to whip up on the kid but did not quite do it.
It was down to the last landing as usual and Chris has a little better
landing. |
 |
Chris Corven was the big winner on this day. I really think Dave, Bob,
Brent and Chris are all winners. Just something about your kid following
in your foot steps and then taking over the reigns. |
 |
Part of the pilots during the awards ceremony. Barb Robinson (far left)
is Brent's far right) mother and Bob next to her is dad. Barb is also a
pilot and hopefully will be competing again soon. |
 |
More of the gallery watching the awards. Welcome back Bob Summers
(second from the left) after 28 years of fishing, he is back to flying.
Sure glad to see him well and still a good stick after that long of a
layoff. If he gets back to full form, we are in trouble. |
 |
Jim "The Kid" Marcicki is very dangerous with his Edge. Jim can
whip up on us old timers most of the time. (Wolf Photo) |
 |
Getting ready for the lunch feast. I really must say that we put on the
best feed of the year for MSL. It was great and everyone really enjoyed
it. (Wolf Photo) |
 |
Not sure what Greg is getting paid-off to do but it sure looks like
Dennis is part of the action. (Wolf Photo) |
 |
Steve Martinez with the big Duck. |
 |
Self explanatory.

Barney Bauer handing Roger the "John Hoover hobby shop" donated prize
for the most improved flyer for the year. We all loved to see this
award because Roger has worked so hard to be a solo pilot and we all
admire his dedication.
We did not get a photo of Wolf getting his award for the clubs most
helpful person, I guess taking one's own photo is not considered Kool.
