Highlights of the 2004 Flying Season

The following photos are a small series that detail the 2004-year from the camera of Jack Iafret. Most of the photo’s are from contests that I attended throughout the year. I did not have the camera at all the contests and am sorry for that now that I put this together. I will try to be more diligent next year.

Who & What

Addison Oaks Corven and the new AVA
Addison Oaks Hartmut and new Evolution which he markets in the USA
Addison Oaks Dick Stratton and his new Nostalgia Legal Grand Esprit
Addison Oaks Ken Rogus and his latest creation, always doing his own thing is Ken’s style
Addison Oaks Hutch trying to explain to Dick why he never can beat Mike Wade (or anyone other than Darryl).
Traverse City Dave’s plane hauler on a typical contest weekend. Dave Corven and Jack Iafret’s planes.  We had a late start Friday driving to TC because of a faulty ignition switch.
Traverse City Dave and Larry Storie waiting for the fog to lift
Traverse City Larry and Carolyn Storie are always at the MSL contests. Larry is an OK pilot (2nd  MSL) and she is an Expert timer.
Grand Valley Hutch and Jack ready to assemble and then rumble on the winches. Well Hutch and winches may not rumble but tippy-toe.
Foxboro Farms Hutch doing a job he can handle, driving his hero, Jim Marcicki, around the farm.
Foxboro Farms Jack’s Nostalgia Legal Maestro Mk III ready for it’s first flight ever at the Foxboro outing.
Foxboro Farms Sid Schmall and Inka Claus talking about Hutch’s flying, or maybe it’s his fantastic car shirt.
Foxboro Farms Wolfgang’s air force. If you need or want it and it’s electric, Wolfgang Ludwig has it.
2004 NAT’S World Champ Darryl Perkins stringing mono line at the F3B event. Dave was CD for this one as well as the Event Director for the 04 NAT’S. Darryl is the guy Hutch whipped at the NAT’S TD event (except for the score).
MISS Field The old and new of floaters, an Aquila and a Graphite I
MSL Final at AO Lunch break with a few of the contestants
MSL Final at AO Hartmut and Inka at their going away party. Two of the nicest people, Hartmut is going back to the homeland of Germany as his three-year US tour is over. Sad for us.
MSL Final at AO Harry DeBoer, one of the MSL’S most fun loving competitors. If you never sat in the MSL tent at the NAT’S with Harry, you never lived.
MSL Final at AO The Rogus family pondering the world of soaring with Sergey
MSL Final at AO Dave Corven doing lunch with a quart of gin colored to look like Gatorade. And he thought he could fool us all.
F3B Team Select You bring your own winches to F3B, and most bring three of them. Each costing as much as a good moldie
F3B Team Select Gordon Jennings (seated) took 1st place and will be in Finland next year trying to make the US look good.
F3B Team Select Shoeless Joe Wurts and Tim Renaud of Airtronics fame talk over scores
F3B Team Select Part of the winch lineup, the ones in the foreground are from Sweden and considered “THE” hot winch.
F3B Team Select The winners that will represent us next year: L to R; Aaron Valdez- forth, Mike Smith- third, Joe Wurts- second and Gordon Jennings- first. Watching them fly was an honor and truly humbling.
