Getting set up in the morning- Dick Stratton and Mike Wade lead the charge and directed the all important winch set up. Notice the bald sky, coats, boots lead one to believe it is raining- it was 50 degrees and wet- YUCK!!!!! |
The tent helped but the paperwork still got wet. The good news the rain quit and by 10:00 O'Clock it was starting to get nice. |
Greg helped me with the scoring all day and Ray, our safety officer, only arrested two pilots for having too much fun. |
The contestants started coming in and here Dennis Hoyle is helping Cal keep warm and dry with a blanket from his car. It helped and Cal was able to fly all day. |
John Winstanley getting ready to put the pieces together for the day. |
The Corven twins doing the same. It was Supra center in this tent along with a Sprite that Chris and I flew after the contest. |
I was so happy for Roger Van Eslander because he flew the complete contest today with a Radian in the high winds. It was his first "big" contest and he had the biggest smile on his face all day. I have to say, he is hooked. |
Like the Corven's, the Robinsons' are a great father and son team. Bob flew a Supra and Brent a Duck. Bob is one of the first guys I met on the Michigan contest circuit and had been a top contender forever. |
Our great CD, Hutch, explaining what he knows about running a major contest. His new/old plane is flying great for him and he did not even break out the EZ Glider to combat the winds. Congradualtions Hutch and I am still waiting for the pay-off of our $1500.00 bet on the outcome of the contest. Hutch ran a great Seeded Man on Man contest today and got in five rounds even with a late weather related start. |
Our big winner of the day. Of course Dennis Hoyle did not know that at this time because we were just getting set up to start the contest. Dennis is the force behind RCSE and we all owe his a big round of applause for that monumental effort. |
WE FINALLY GOT STARTED!!! Ken Rogus was the launch master most of the day. |
